Mindfulness Monday: Practice Being Peaceful
Monday, September 11, 2017 11:35 AM

Did you know Anwatin is an International Peace Site?  Located in our courtyard is a peace pole that symbolizes the oneness of humanity and our common wish for a world at peace.  Today Principal Ellen greeted students sharing a message of peace and reflection on this anniversary of September 11th.  Today and everyday we encourage our students to practice being peaceful toward themselves, towards on another, and toward their environment.  Join us in 10 Days of Peace leading up to International Peace Day on Thursday, September 21st.  Click here to learn more about The Peace Pole Project.

Minneapolis Public Schools Supports Dreamers/Las Escuelas Públicas de Minneapolis Apoya a Los Dreamers
Tuesday, September 05, 2017 6:10 PM

We know many MPS employees, students and families are experiencing fear, uncertainty, anger and disappointment as a result of the White House decision on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Please know you can come to work or school and receive the same support and educational services as always. Our role is not to ask about citizenship or immigration status. Our role is to educate students.

Minneapolis Public Schools is a welcoming place for all students and families, regardless of their immigration status, national origin or language. The Minneapolis Board of Education affirmed this in a resolution passed last December.

It is not the role of the district to ask about the citizenship or immigration status of any of our students or families, or to enforce federal immigration laws. It has been our practice to only provide information when required by law or a valid court order. MPS will continue to ensure all students have equitable access to educational and extracurricular opportunities, including rigorous courses, engaging activities, high-quality athletics and supportive services, regardless of immigration status.
