Hello 7th grade students and families. I have been teaching English at Anwatin School since 1998. I came to teaching after a career in book editing and then church music. I am especially fond of the theater and performing arts, and I always include drama studies in my class as well as performance poetry. Both my sons graduated from Anwatin, and I am proud of our school community. The class is taught as a reading and writing workshop. Students are expected to read at least a book a month and to write about the books they read in various formats throughout the year. Students in English Language Arts receive a weekly work summary, which summarizes the classwork and homework for the next week. The Work Summary for the current week or past weeks may be downloaded from the list below. The best way to reach me is by email at email@example.com. You can also leave a message on my voice-mail at 612-692-1125. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns about your child's progress in my class.
Last week we began studying the story "Thank you, M'am," by Langston Hughes. We will have a shared inquiry discussion of that story on Tuesday. At home, students should have finished reading their book for March and should pick a new book for April. They have an extra week over spring break to do their reading for the month of April. When students come back after spring break, we will be preparing for the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) in reading.
