About Ms. Vang

Ms. Vang was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, but grew up in a small town in Wisconsin.  She attended college at the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota where she received her B.A. in English and B.A. in Communication Arts & Literature Secondary Education.  She received her Master of Arts in Literacy Education from Saint Mary's University.  Ms. Vang has been teaching since 2007.

During Ms. Vang's free time she enjoys playing volleyball and flag football, biking, running, snowboarding, traveling, reading, and singing. Ms. Vang is a pro at Scrabble, Tetris, and Speed. Ms. Vang also makes delicious spring rolls and egg rolls.  Ms. Vang is an aspiring snowboarder, writer, singer, photographer, and everything in between.

Information about ELA 8

Provides information about each unit in ELA 8 including literature, writing, and vocabulary: Each unit includes a novel and supporting text, content vocabulary, and a writing assignment.  Students are expected to read assigned novels at home and participate in class activities and shared inquiry discussion.  Each unit ends with a summative writing assignment (argumentative essay, informative research, narrative, profile essay).

Academic Vocabulary

Bi-weekly Academic Word List: Students are expected to learn ten new academic vocabulary words every two weeks.  At the end of the two weeks, students take a quiz that includes defining the word, using the word in context, reading a passage and answering comprehension questions, and writing an essay based on the academic vocabulary word list.
