How to volunteer/Cómo ser voluntario/a

Thank you for your interest in volunteering!

Volunteers play an important role in Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS). Each year, approximately 8,000 volunteers--including college students, family members, business people and community members--share their time and talents with MPS. Volunteers bring fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and support as they assist teachers, staff, and students.

With 70+ schools throughout Minneapolis, there are thousands of opportunities to get involved and make a difference.

Here at Anwatin, we have occasional (one-time) and ongoing volunteer opportunities--both small and large--happening all hours of the day. Volunteers can tutor students, do weekly food distribution with Sheridan Story, help in the media center, and assist teachers with special projects.

Here's how to begin:
1. Complete an online application--MPS has different forms for Community Volunteers and Parent/Guardian Volunteers.

2. Complete an orientation and agree to the MPS Volunteer Expectations. Some schools require you to complete a school-specific volunteer orienation. General MPS orientation available here.

3. Some volunteer positions require you to complete a background check. You will be notified if this is required. Please allow up to two weeks to complete the background check process.
